Have you had medical complications from an IVC Filter?

IVC filters are placed in the largest vein of the body, the inferior vena cava to help capture blood clots as they move throughout the body. These filters are often placed to prevent blood clots from traveling to other parts of the body including the heart and lungs. In August 2010, the FDA issued warnings to doctors and surgeons alerting them of all problems retrieving many of these filters. There have been at least 900 adverse event reports received by the FDA involving complications from IVC filters. These complications include filters migrating to other areas of the patient’s body, filters breaking off fragments traveling throughout the patient’s body, perforation of filters and in some cases, death.
